Things I Love About Autumn

17th September 2014

As you might have guessed from my last post… I LOVE AUTUMN. As I get older it’s quickly becoming my favourite season of the year and I can’t wait for the most beautiful season of them all to hit. While we’re waiting for autumn to properly arrive, here are the top few things I love about autumn.

1. Hot chocolate.
Proper hot chocolate; thick and creamy with marshmallows on top. Drinking it snuggled up in bed late at night, while watching cartoons, is absolute bliss.

2. Everything looks lovely.
Autumn has a unique way of making grey, dreary days look beautiful. When I drive home from Bath I have to make my way down a huuuuuge, winding hill (Brassknocker Hill, if you fancy Googling it) and has incredible views all over Somerset and Wiltshire. It looks lovely all year round but nothing beats that view when the leaves have started to turn and the woods are the brightest oranges and reds.

Autumn Nail Varnish Picks

15th September 2014

The leaves have started to turn, there’s a distinct nip in the air and the nights are gradually starting to draw in… Yup, summer’s over and autumn’s on the horizon. With autumn officially beginning on September 22nd I thought this would be the perfect time to talk about six of the colours I’ll be wearing on my nails in the coming months.

I’m pretty traditional when it comes to autumn colours. I love mustard yellows, deep greens and rich burgundies. I think they go so well with a season of harvest and richness and I’m already filling my wardrobe with these luxurious, gorgeous colours.

First up, we’ve got one of the Barry M Autumn/Winter Gelly releases, Mustard. This one’s been talked about a *lot* online and I couldn’t resist picåking it up in a Boots haul a couple of weeks ago. I’m not a big wearer of yellow on my nails but I’m glad I took a chance on this as it’s something a bit different and will bring me out of the burgundy/purple/navy rotation I usually have going on.
Next is something which is going to be a big pain for you if you like the look of it, as I think it was a limited edition shade from Halloween last year. It’s shade 1134 Black Magic from Sinful Colors and I picked it up in Florida last year. I don’t think I wore it at all last year but I tried it out last week and absolutely love it. It’s a shimmery grey base with burnt orange glitter and I’ve never seen anything like it before. This will go perfectly with so many of my autumn dresses and provides a nice little somethin’ somethin’ to make a plain outfit a bit more exciting.

April Favourites

30th April 2014

ERMAGERD THIS YEAR IS GOING SO FAST GUIZZZ.

Anyway, now that’s over with shall we get on with my April favourites?
This month I’ve been trying a few products that I’ve had for a while but have been languishing sadly at the back of my drawers. Shopping the stash, ladies, it’s always a good thing!
I’m a big highlighter fan these days and in the run up to summer I’ve been really enjoying the NYX Liquid Illuminator in Gleam, which is a peachy golden highlight. Now the sun is finally making an appearance I’ve been wanting to give my face a little bit of a bronzed glow and this product is perfect. Big thumbs up from me.
Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze has been my absolute eyeshadow staple this month. I’ve barely used anything else on my lids and this shadow has completed converted me to the joys of cream eyeshadows. It doesn’t crease, it lasts FOREVER and looks amazing – I’ve worn this pretty much every day in April and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
YSL Babydoll Mascara in a travel size that I got in one of the Sephora boxes I picked up on holiday last year. My my my, this mascara lengthens like crazy, yo! I’m not joking when I say this doubles the length of my lashes and, while it doesn’t particularly volumes, it fans my lashes out to avoid the dreaded clumps.
Spring has sprung! It’s time for Essie’s Mint Candy Apple to rear its lovely head again and I’ve been wearing this on my nails throughout April. The formula’s great, the staying power makes me happy and it’s such a fun, bright colour – it makes me smile every time I give myself a new mani.
I’ve been using the Nars Eyeshadow in Bali a few times a week and I’m in love. But! I haven’t been using it as an eye shadow, oh no no no. I’ve actually been using it on my brows and it’s the perfect shade for me – it fills them in and makes my whole face look more put together, without giving me the scouse brow look that’s happened before when I’ve tried to use an eyeshadow to fill them in…
As I’ve been wearing quite a toned-down eye throughout April I’ve been experimenting more with lip products and my favourite of the bunch is the Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly. As it’s a gloss I’ve been applying it on top of a number of lipsticks and it’s such a versatile product – I love it. It gives a creamy, shiny finish to any lip colour and it looks gorgeous over more neutral colours, like Nars Dolce Vita. The only downside is that my boyfriend recoils in horror every time he kisses me and his lips start tingling, ha!
Now the weather’s getting brighter I’ve replaced my heavy wintry perfumes with lighter, fruity fragrances that are perfect for the warmer weather. I’ve been wearing a few different perfumes this month but my favourite new discovery is the Forever 21 Rollerball in Coconut. Trust me, this smells incredible and I always get compliments when I wear it. And it was a total bargain, obviously.
Benefit Cha Cha Tint has made me step outside my comfort zone of powder blushers and dabble with cream and liquid offerings and I’m very, very quickly becoming a convert. I love the natural finish this gives and it lasts allllll day long – perfect.
Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner are my favourite two products of the month, for sure! I only bought these two weeks ago but they have made *the* biggest difference to my hair. I’ve really been struggling with my hair lately – it’s just all a bit blah, gets greasy quickly, my scalp is feeling super dry and my ends were not looking good. After I used this combo a couple of times I cannot believe how much nicer my hair is looking – I shared a few pics of my hair last week because I’m so chuffed! The only thing I’d say is that the conditioner isn’t the most amazing out there when it comes to detangling but as long as you use a good hair mask once a week you’re good to go.
So there you have it, those are my favourite products from the last month. Quite a variety but I love all of my picks and fully intend to keep using them for a long time to come! What are your favourite products from April? Let me know!

2014 Blogging Resolutions

1st January 2014

So the ball has well and truly dropped and 2014 is upon us! There’s something so lovely about a brand new year, isn’t there? It’s a clean slate, a fresh start and the opportunity to turn over a new leaf and make some really positive changes. Although, every day is a good day to make a change, there’s nothing like a new year to kickstart plans.

1. Interact More with the Blogging Community:
This year I’ve really loved making friends with so many wonderful bloggers and this is something I want to continue in 2014. You’re a lovely lot but sometimes I don’t feel like I chat to people as much as I could – instead of taking part in the #bbloggers chats when I have time I want to prioritise them instead.

2. Say ‘No’ More:

As always! I have quite a lot of commitments in my life and in 2013 I well and truly burned out and couldn’t cope with the pressure I’d put on myself. I often find myself getting guilted into committing to things I don’t really want to do so this year I need to get serious about this one and, if this is the right word, I need to be a bit more selfish and really think about what’s best for me, rather than trying to keep everybody else happy to my own detriment. Sometimes it’s okay to be a bit selfish!

3. Stick to a Skincare Routine:

I firmly got into a skincare routine in 2013 and I want to continue with this in 2014. Not a day goes by where I don’t take my make up off and moisturise (et al!) but I’d like to experiment with other skincare products out there – I have a huge wishlist so I gradually want to try out some more high end products.

4. Experiment More with Make Up:

I feel like this one is on everybody’s list but it’s definitely a good one. I got into a bit of a ‘smokey brown’ eye look in 2013 and while I like it, I want to try more colours and different styles. I experimented a lot more with lip colours last year so I want to carry on with this, as it’s great that I now have the confidence to head out for the day sporting a spot of Ruby Woo!

5. Keep Photo Albums:

I was very lucky to be given a gorgeous camera for my birthday in December so 2014 is going to be the year of photography for me! Instead of leaving my favourite shots languishing in a folder on my laptop I want to make the effort to print out my photos and arrange them in some albums or in collages on my walls.

6. Do More Quality Things:

Now, I’m a terrible sucker for spending an afternoon surfing the Internet instead of actually going out and doing something useful, so I want to spend more time in 2014 going out to new places with my boyfriend, taking my dog on different walking routes and watching the movies and reading the books I’ve had on my list for years now.

7. Be Healthier:

Yup, this old chestnut. Boring as it is, it’s on my list. I know I’m not particularly healthy and this is something I always want to change. I feel like now’s the time I’m really ready to make some great changes and I can’t wait. My boyfriend is a big gym fan so he’s going to help whip me into a fitter version of myself! While I do want to lose weight I want to do it healthily and in a way that’s enjoyable. I love cooking and I don’t want to give up lovely home-cooked dinners so this year it’s all about balance. I want to tone up, improve my fitness, get enough sleep, eat wholesome, yummy food and enjoy having the energy to bound out of bed in the mornings!

So there we have it! My resolutions for 2014 – hopefully I can stick to them. So tell me, what’s on your list?

Top Five A/W 2013 Lipsticks

8th November 2013

As I mentioned earlier this week I’ve become a bit of a lipstick fiend of late. I’m really enjoying trying out new shades and adding a lot of new products to my make up drawers – oops!

To tie in with my newfound love of lipstick here are my top five lipstick picks for Autumn/Winter 2013.

MUA Lipstick in Shade 1 // MAC Plumful // Rimmel Moisture Renew in Latino // Too Faced La Creme in Bumbleberry // Revlon Just Bitten in Crush

I’m very much following the norm and have gone for some berry shades in my picks, ranging from plums to deep wines and a few shades in between.

MUA Lipstick in Shade 1 // MAC Plumful // Rimmel Moisture Renew in Latino // Too Faced La Creme in Bumbleberry // Revlon Just Bitten in Crush

MUA Lipstick in Shade 1: This is a deep red, almost scarlet colour that I like to pair with lots of mascara and simple black liner. For £1 it’s a complete steal but the formula is a little drying on me so keep a lip balm nearby!

MAC Plumful: My review of this went up on Monday and I’m in love. For me, this is a perfect Autumnal shade that goes with any look and, what’s more, the formula is a dream.

Rimmel Moisture Renew in Latino: I don’t have many Rimmel lipsticks in my make up drawers but this one I’m quite a fan of. It livens up a dull face (which mine often is throughout this time of year!) but the shimmer isn’t for everybody.

Too Faced La Creme in Bumbleberry: My favourite of the bunch; I’ve been wearing this a lot since picking it up a few weeks ago. One slick of this on my lips and they’re nourished and glossy for hours – as this is part lipstick/part balm it’s not at all drying – win.

Revlon Just Bitten in Crush: I’m a big fan of the Revlon Just Bitten range and Crush is one of my most worn shades. A gorgeous deep berry colour, it’s one I’ve chucked in my make up bag so often the branding has worn away from the packaging!
